The Object
For one hundred and fifty years, the Kaikado workshop has made one thing: a tin-smithed caddy designed to hold tea leaves in complete stillness. This particular piece is drawn in copper — a material that oxidises slowly, darkening through years of handling into something personal and impossible to replicate. Every seam is hand-soldered. The lid lifts with a hiss of air and settles shut with gravity alone. There are no screws. There are no shortcuts. Kaikado makes roughly twenty thousand caddies each year; the copper variants account for fewer than three hundred.

Made in Kyoto. Acquired directly from the workshop in 2024. Unused, in original packaging.
